A MASSIVE series of community litter pick is being organised as part of a national environmental movement.
Residents in Warrington are being asked to volunteer some time to join Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean event in the town.
The nationwide effort will run from Friday, March 17, through to Sunday, April 2, and Warrington’s litter picking arms is already making plans.
Dr Tony Dixon, a Keep Britain Tidy ambassador from Grappenhall who attended the Great British Spring Clean launch in London, is confident the event will make a big difference.
“In 2022, we tidied the entire Trans Pennine Trail, from Lymm through Warrington to Widnes and the Sankey Valley Trail from Widnes, through Warrington to St Helens.,” he said.
“This year, we are hoping to do all that again and also go for as many parks and trails as we can.
“The list includes the whole pf the Trans Pennine Trail from Lymm to Widnes, the whole of the Sankey Valley Trail from St Helens to Widnes, plus all of Black Bear Park, the Mersey Way, Orford Park and a good number of other parks.
“We have 10 teams involved so far and new locations may be added.”
There will also be a major Warrington Borough Council litter pick at Delph Lane in Winwick, with road closures arranged for the morning of Saturday, March 18.
New volunteers can book in to any picks if they are available by registering on the Facebook events at litternetworks.org
“Almost all of the picks for the Great British Spring Clean are being held in traffic-free open spaces,” Tony added.
“The trails and parks of Warrington can be awe-inspiring, and this is a very mindful way to get outside into nature and actually enhance our local environment.
“It is a perfect opportunity for new starters to try out litter picking. It is sociable and actually can be fun.”
