TWO school choirs will be singing at a special event in the town centre to mark the 30th anniversary of the Warrington bombing.

Tim Parry, who lost his life on March 20, 1993 when the IRA planted a bomb outside McDonald’s on Bridge Street, was a pupil at Great Sankey High School having spent seven years at Barrowhall Primary School.

Students from both schools will come together at the commemoration event on Monday to perform three songs in his memory.

Great Sankey High School choir will open the ceremony by singing You Raise Me Up, which is an uplifting song with Irish roots before being joined by pupils from Barrowhall Primary School to perform A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman.

Around a hundred voices will then finish with an emotional rendition of Labi Siffre’s Something Inside So Strong.

Jo Cosgrove, musical director at Great Sankey High School, said: “It is a great privilege for our students at Great Sankey High School choir to be asked to perform alongside Barrowhall Primary School choir at an event so close to everyone’s hearts.

“Our choirs have performed collaboratively for the 20th and 25th commemoration anniversaries of the Warrington bombing - previously with Warrington Male Voice Choir.

“Some of our current students at the high school were also part of the primary school choir when we performed for HRH Princess Anne in 2018.

“As a choral director, to be asked to arrange and direct the music for the third time by Colin and Wendy Parry is an absolute honour.

“The students have been rehearsing three songs since the start of the year.

“The songs have been carefully selected and arranged for their voices.

“We are a 100-strong choir, including teachers and teaching assistants, and are deeply proud to be performing on such a special occasion.”
