A 13-year-old from Latchford is set to feature on Channel 4's newest reality TV show, 'The Piano.'

Daniel Green, who is in Year Eight at King's Leadership Academy in Woolston, taught himself to play the piano during the first Covid-19 lockdown.

According to Daniel's mother, Ana, the schoolboy was inspired to learn to play the piano after watching the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, and falling in love with the music of Queen.

Ana told the Warrington Guardian that Daniel watched a lot of videos on YouTube, and was eventually able to play the piano, as well as singing at the same time.

"We still can't understand how," Ana said.

Daniel's mum continued: "He started learning more songs to play for his grandparents in Spain, as the lockdown was quite hard over there, to make them happy."

The Latchford teenager then began to play on open pianos that were available in Liverpool city centre, to the astonishment of passersby.

Daniel also has played as part of events put on by WAM - WArrington Music - and has played outside of Warrington's branch of HMV.

Now, Daniel is set to appear on Channel 4's show 'The Piano,' which is embarking on a search to find some of the country's most talented musicians.

It will be judged by popstar Mika, and Chinese pianist Lang Lang.

Ana added: "Last year, while playing in Manchester, he was asked to participate in this new show they were creating.

"The filming was done last summer at Leeds train station.

"During the filming, he got to meet Lang Lang and Mika, which was his best moment."

'The Piano' airs at 9pm on Wednesday evenings on Channel 4.
