WORK will begin on the refurbishment of Culcheth Library at the beginning of March.

The renovation works are expected to last for nearly four months in order to complete the planned refurbishment works.

It was announced that the library will close on Sunday, March 4, and the work is expected to last for 15 weeks.

With this in mind, the library is eyeing a reopening date in the summer.

The library also confirmed that no fines will be issued during the time of its closure.

Current opening times for the library are as follows:

  • Monday - 2-5pm
  • Tuesday - 10am-1pm, 2-6pm
  • Wednesday - Closed
  • Thursday - 10am-1pm, 2-5pm
  • Friday - 11am-5.00pm
  • Saturday - 9.30am-1pm
  • Sunday - Closed

Included in the plans is improved signage for the library, as well as an extension to the entrance of the library.

The planning documents also suggest that the existing courtyard will be infilled to make way for the construction of a new room for the library.

No objections were noted on the council's planning portal from Transport Development Control, with documents saying: "Given the location within the centre of Culcheth, as well as the scale of the proposal, there are not deemed to be any significant highway implications, and there are no objections raised."

Rachel Ralston, LiveWire’s strategic library manager, said: “As a result of the refurbishment at Culcheth, we look forward to having a roomier, more modern, and more flexible library in the future.

"LiveWire, Warrington Borough Council, alongside the Friends of Culcheth Library Group, have collaborated on the development of these plans."
