PLANS to install solar panels at a Domino's Pizza distribution centre have been approved by council planning bosses.

The distribution centre at Omega Business Park applied for planning permission to install the solar panels back in December, with the plans being validated at the beginning of this year.

A decision was made to tell the owners of the site that they did not need to apply for permission in the first place, and that the installation of the solar panels can go ahead.

Motorists may be familiar with the site, as the Domino's supply chain centre can be seen from the M62.

The household name says that the town’s 117,000-square-foot industrial building on Skyline Drive is the ‘backbone’ of the business.

According to planning documents that were submitted to the council, the solar system will be up to 999.58kWp in size.

The developers said: "The impact of the glare from the solar modules is considered to be minimal as they are treated with anti-reflective coating to aid the absorption of light to increase cell efficiency."

Everything that is sent to Domino's Pizza sites in the area comes from the supply chain centre - whether that is freshly-made dough or toppings for their pizzas.

The decision notice posted on Warrington Borough Council's online planning portal reads: "The application for the installation of solar pv panels on an arched roof as detailed on the submitted application form, Location Plan and PV System (PV*SOL Technical Specifications) received by the Local Planning Authority on January 3 2023 has been assessed against Schedule 2, Part 14 Class J of the Town & Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (England) Order 2015 (as amended) and meets the requirements of Class J.

"The prior approval of the Local Planning Authority is not required."
