TRIBUTES have poured in from across Warrington in the wake of the tragic murder of Brianna Ghey.

Cheshire Police confirmed that the body of 16-year-old Brianna was found on a path in Culcheth Linear Park on Saturday, February 11.

The heartbreaking news of the teenager's murder has brought on an overwhelming response from the people of Culcheth in the wake of the heinous crime that has ripped the community apart.

It was announced on Sunday evening, February 12, that police in Warrington had arrested two teenagers - both 15, one boy and one girl - on suspicion of Brianna's murder.

The focus has begun to shift from the senseless murder of a teenager in Culcheth, to paying tribute to the person Brianna was, and how she lived her short life to the full.

Social media has been flooded with tributes to the teenager; Alison Atkin took to Twitter, saying: "I am so saddened and so angered by the murder of Brianna Ghey. The tragedy of her life being taken away.

"I feel for her bereaved friends and family."

Jen wrote: "Devastating. Thinking of Brianna's family and friends.

"And all of my friends for whom this will have impacted personally."

Collette Morris tweeted: "The murder of Brianna Ghey feels like a gut punch. This happened in my town, in a park we walk in, we went to the same high school.

"I can't imagine what her family are going through."

A fundraiser has since been set up in Brianna's name to assist her family with funeral costs - the page says: "Brianna was an outgoing, confident girl. She brought a lot of laughter to those who knew her.

"She was looking forward to taking her exams this year and beginning her journey into the adult world."

A Culcheth residents' group on social media has been inundated with tributes for Brianna - for privacy, full names of those commenting will not be provided.

Diane said: "Sending love, thoughts and prayers to Brianna, her family and friends. Another sad loss of an innocent child through knife crime.

"My thoughts and prayers go out to all her family and friends at this very sad time. This is absolutely heartbreaking."

Julie added: "I’m sure we are all thinking of her family and friends at the heartbreaking time. Such a tragic loss of a beautiful young girl."

Culcheth councillor Wendy Maisey said: "My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time. So hard to think this has happened in our village.

"If you have any information please contact the police."

Tributes have also been paid by Warrington's two MPs.

Andy Carter took to social media, saying: "The death of Brianna Ghey is desperately tragic news and I send my sincere condolences to Brianna’s family and friends."

The MP for Warrington North - which includes Culcheth - is Charlotte Nichols, she said: "May Brianna's memory forever be a blessing.

"My thoughts are with all those who knew and loved her."

Cheshire Police are appealing for anyone who may have information about the incident to come forward.
