A BRIGHT psychology student from Winwick has been awarded a prestigious education grant in a bid to help her achieve her career ambitions.

Former Culcheth High student Amelia Davies received one of the rare awards given by national charity, Oddfellows – receiving £2700 to assist her in her current studies.

Oddfellows have more than 100 branches across the country and only select three students a year to help to ‘get the most out of their time at university’ and Amelia is a member of their South East Lancashire branch.

The 21-year-old who is undergoing a three-year psychology degree at Liverpool John Moores University expressed gratitude to the society for the generous grant.

“I am extremely grateful that the Oddfellows chose me for this award, as it will be a huge help towards my commute to and from University.

“I hope that my studies lead me to become a research psychologist specialising in health psychology after a masters and hopefully a PhD.

“I chose to study psychology as I am fascinated by the subject, especially health psychology, and I am interested in the link between mind and body and their interaction with each other,” she added.

Oddfellows are a national charity that support hundreds of people with social, care and financial benefits.

Sheila Kendall, Branch Secretary for the Oddfellows’ Southeast Lancashire Branch said: “Being able to support Amelia on her journey is a huge honour, and we couldn’t be more proud of her achievements so far.”
