THE friends of a man whose death sparked a murder investigation are hoping to fund a lasting memorial to him.

Billy Moore sadly died following an incident at an address in Yardley Avenue in Bewsey in the run-up to Christmas on Thursday, December 22.

Cheshire Police officers, along with other emergency services, attended shortly before 10.45pm after the force received a call reporting that a man had sustained serious injuries.

The 31-year-old was taken to hospital with the injuries, which a court hearing heard were ‘multiple stab wounds’ in nature, but he sadly died.

An online donation page has been set up this month by Billy’s friends, and at the time of writing this had raised £845 towards its £3,000 goal.

The page reads: “Our close friend Billy suddenly had his life snatched away from him on December 22 at only 31 years old.

“We as Billy’s friends, approved by his family, have set this page up for donations instead of flowers.

“This is to help assist with costs for a memorial, and the remaining donations will be sent to the charity Nightsafe, where Billy volunteered.”

Nightsafe works with young people in Blackburn and Darwen who are homeless or are at risk of homelessness, providing accommodation, day centres with information, advice and guidance.

It helps with emergency needs and empowers young people to play a positive part in their community.

The page adds: “Billy loved being involved with the charity and helping others.

“He was a great friend of ours who will be deeply missed. He would do anything for anyone. We all miss you Billy, rest in peace.”

“All who knew him would say that he was a gentle giant with a kind soul. We are devastated that he has been taken from us so young and in such a senseless way.

“Losing a loved one at any time is difficult, but so suddenly and during Christmas has been unbearable.

“We would like to offer our extended thanks to all the emergency services that attended the scene and tried to help Billy, as well as the officers who have been working tirelessly over Christmas to bring those accountable to justice.

“Billy, we will love you until the next life.”

James Ireland, aged 41 and of Lodge Lane in Bewsey, has been charged with murder in connection with Billy’s death.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and is due to stand trial in July.
