IT has been revealed that thousands of residents in Warrington are living without access to central heating.

The data comes as part of the Office for National Statistics' findings from the 2021 census.

According to the figures, some 2,321 people across the town are living without central heating.

Although this makes up just 1.1 per cent of the town's population, that means more than one in 100 people do not have access to central heating in Warrington.

This comes at a time when 'Warm Hubs' are being established across the town to support those vulnerable during this time, and who have to choose between 'heating or eating' in the cost of living crisis.

Furthermore, the ONS data suggests that almost half of all homes in Warrington can be described as 'deprived in one or more dimensions.'

The dimensions of deprivation used by the ONS include education, employment status, health, and housing status.

Using the information provided by the ONS, that means approximately 101,280 Warrington residents are technically 'deprived.'

Moreover, of the population aged 16 or over in Warrington, more than 15,300 have never worked.

However, despite 21.8 per cent of all working-age people having never worked in Warrington, this is lower than the national average of 25.5 per cent.

According to the ONS, over 40 per cent of adults are 'economically inactive' in Warrington - however, when taking into account the number of residents above the retirement age, this leaves 26 per cent of working-age adults 'inactive.'

This means over 45,000 residents between 16 and the retirement age are 'economically inactive.'

Of those in employment, a significant portion say they now conduct most of their work from home - 31 per cent of the working population (or around 54,000 people).

In terms of education, one-third of residents over-16 possess the highest level of qualification - which means 57,584 residents have earned a Level 4 (or higher) qualification.

However, 28,792 people aged 16 or over in Warrington do not have any recognised qualifications - this is 16.5 per cent of the working-age population.

Broadly speaking, Warrington ranks higher than the national average for people in work, people who own their own home, and households with 'no dimension of deprivation.'
