A WOODLAND trail in Thelwall has flooded during a torrential downpour experienced across Warrington.

According to the Met Office, in the 10 hours between 9pm on Wednesday night and 6am on Thursday morning, it was raining for nine of them.

The Met Office issued a weather warning for Wales and the south west last night, but Warrington was also hit by heavy rainfall, as the images taken by Lisa Cooper highlight.

35 flood warnings and 109 alerts for areas where flooding is expected or possible in England have been issued by the Environment Agency recently.

Speaking to PA Media, Mark Garratt, flood duty manager at the Environment Agency, said: "Continued heavy rainfall across England means that minor localised surface water and river flooding is probable.

“With the ground already saturated, communities in these areas should check their flood risk.

“The Environment Agency is monitoring flood levels, operating flood gates and barriers at locations across the country, and ensuring debris screens are clear from blockages to ensure communities are better protected."

The Trans Pennine Trail in Thelwall has been the victim of intense flooding this week.

Adjacent to Stockport Road, the woodland trail is a popular route for walkers and nature lovers - offering a taste of nature, as well as being next to the flowing water next to the trail.

According to Get The Data, much of Thelwall is considered to be at high risk of flooding, as a result of its canals, as well as the River Mersey that flows through the village.

Further rainfall is expected to hit Thelwall for much of the weekend, easing off on Tuesday, the BBC says.
