TEMPORARY plans for two new containers, along with the retention of one, at a rowing club look set for approval after it was deemed they will not result in ‘permanent harm’.

Warrington Rowing Club’s application proposes the retention of one container and an additional two containers within the car park at the Howley Lane site to provide additional storage facilities for a temporary period of three years.

It will come before the development management committee at its meeting on Wednesday and is recommended for approval subject to conditions.

The club lies on the northern bank of the River Mersey and is adjacent to Kingsway Bridge immediately to the east.

The land to the west and rear are a mixture of undeveloped land and commercial uses with the recently developed area of residential properties further to the west north of Howley Lane.

The site has an existing storage container on the land in the area of the current proposal.

A report to the committee states that the proposal supports the active use of an established sports facility and uses an area already identified for car parking through an earlier planning permission.

It says: “The proposal is temporary only but given its location, will not result in permanent harm to the wider green infrastructure of the Mersey Valley and access to it.

“The proposal will result in additional temporary storage provision for an established sports facility in the borough to enable its continued offer and enterprise.”

Furthermore, it adds that the temporary nature of the containers and the provision of appropriate colour coating and landscaping, ensure that their siting can be done ‘without detriment’ to the visual amenity of the area, residential amenity of the nearest occupiers and with ‘no harm to highway safety’ – and, as such, the proposal is ‘acceptable’.
