RESIDENTS can now benefit from capped £2 bus faces in Warrington as the cost-busting scheme has now come into effect.

As of January 1, bus fares in Warrington have now been capped at £2 for three months to the end of March.

The reduced fares come as part of a £60million Government scheme to reduce the cost of travelling on buses across England, outside of London.

The scheme also aims to reduce reliance on cars and get more people commuting on public transport, reducing congestion.

Warrington's Own Buses will be one of more than 130 bus operators across the country taking part in the scheme in the New Year.

With the ticket price in some areas costing over £5 per journey, the £2 fare cap will see bus users in Warrington make significant savings going into 2023.

Warrington South MP Andy Carter said: “This is additional financial help for bus users in Warrington, reducing fares, making getting around town cheaper on a significant number of routes.

“The Government is working closely with bus operators like Warrington’s Own Buses to help passengers to access reliable and affordable bus services.

“The fare cap builds on the investment already made to support services locally which includes direct funding to routes which have been extended to run at weekends and during off peak periods when demand is traditionally lower.

“Single fares which are already lower than £2 will not be affected by the cap.

“Warrington will also shortly benefit from a brand new zero emissions fleet of 120 buses, the largest investment by central Government in any town in the north of England demonstrating our commitment to levelling up by improving connectivity in public transport routes for Warrington.”
