Honours are to be awarded to Warrington people in King Charles' first New Year's Honours List.

The residents are set to be recognised for their efforts to the wider community, services to children, and services to older people.

These awards recognise a person's induction to the Order of the British Empire.

MBEs are to be bestowed upon Margaret King and Martin Jones.

Geoff Hawley was formerly the chairman of Lymm Parish Council, and is being recognised for services to the wider community of Cheshire with a BEM, British Empire Medal.

Geoff was the deputy chairman of the council in 2018/19, after his work as chairman of the Allotments Committee, before being elected as chairman of the parish council in 2019, serving until 2021.

Margaret King is being recognised for services to children, having been linked to the Rosebank Day Nursery, on Pepper Street, Lymm, for a number of years.

Margaret has been involved in education and community service since entering the teaching profession in 1970. Margaret created the first Modern Educational Dance GCSE Curriculum in the UK in 1972.

After moving to Lymm in the mid-80s Margaret set up Lymm Dance in 1987 and also assisted in local primary school musicals as a volunteer.

She said: "I am delighted to receive this honour. It was totally unexpected.

"Over the years I have simply done what I thought was the right thing to do and have been helped by so many staff and colleagues along the way."

Martin Jones will receive his MBE for services to older people, following his work as CEO of Home Intead, a company working to support elderly people who wish to remain at home.

According to the Cabinet Office, which is responsible for approving the Honours List, 'Martin's leadership as CEO of Home Instead Senior Care UK has seen him lead his team to help change the face of ageing in the UK by delivering a pioneering, companionship-based home care service.'

The service provided by Martin's company ensures that elderly people can remain in comfort at home, whilst also receiving attentive care and support from the company's hand-picked care professionals.

Home Instead was awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise in 2016 for the company's innovative approach to providing social care - the company received more 'outstanding' ratings in that year than any other adult social care provider.

Martin has also taken on an advisory role to assist the Government, notably through the pandemic, with the Cabinet Office adding: "Through his work as a non-executive on the UK Healthcare Association board, he has helped sector bodies and the Government navigate their way through the pandemic, advising on a range of tactical solutions and helping to develop longer-term solutions."

Geoff Hawley, Margaret King, and Martin Jones will receive MBEs as part of the New Year's Honours List 2023.
