MARIAH Carey could buy hundreds of Warrington homes with profits from her best-selling holiday song ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’.

The singer’s iconic tune is in the UK Singles Charts once again this year, after first claiming the top spot in 2020.

With 10.8million streams recorded in the latest cycle by the Official Charts Company, All I Want For Christmas Is You overtook Taylor Swift’s Anti-Hero this week.

Although written in just 15 minutes and recorded nearly 30 years ago, the song earned more than £48million in royalties up to 2016, according to the Economist.

Making an estimated £2million a year since then – 73 times the median annual salary of £28,100 in Warrington – the song has earned about £61million up to and including this year.

As a result, the singer could buy around 227 houses in Warrington with the song’s estimated earnings – with recent Land Registry figures showing the average house price in the area was £267,000 in October.

While her profit could see her afford 506 houses in Burnley, she would get the fewest in Kensington and Chelsea at 45.
