WELCOME to Behind the Lens, a new feature that shines a light on the talented photographers in our Warrington Guardian Camera Club group.
This week, we’re looking at 41-year-old Zoltán Romvári’s favourite photos.
Zoltán is originally from Hungary but moved to Northwich in 2007 and now lives in Warrington.
He is a master photographer and artist having completed a degree at the University of Manchester.

Zoltán Romvári
When and why did you take up photography?
I have been in love with photography since I was a child. My mum’s cousin, who was a famous Hungarian photographer, played a big role. Under his influence I picked up an analogue camera for the very first time and taught myself how to use it. It all started 26 years ago and the passion has been there ever since.

What do you love about taking pictures?
For me, photography is the art of the moment. In today’s fast-paced world, I aim to show small details and missed moments that are invisible to others. I try to stop time with my photos. For me photography breaks constancy, brings calm and harmony to my life.

Where is your favourite place to take pictures and why?
Wherever I go, I take my camera, because I believe that there is always potential in the habitat around us. For me, my most favourite places are Wales and Scotland. They fascinate me because of their breath-taking landscape and thousands of years of history.

What is your favourite subject matter and why?
I'm a landscape and fine art photographer. I take great pleasure in art macros, futuristic landscape photos and social critical photos, but lately I have become a great lover of birds and natural photography.

What do you enjoy about being part of our Camera Club on Facebook?
I have been a member of the group for about five years. I like that there are photographers of different levels and characters, from amateur to professional, so you can gather a lot of inspiration. The club is very active and has a family atmosphere and that is why club members can present their pictures without fear, because they know that they will only receive constructive advice. It always gives me great joy when different events bring members together. I was proud, for example, of the moment when one of my pictures was exhibited together with several other members last year at an exhibition here in Warrington.

If you could photograph anyone/any place/anything, who/what would it be?
It is a very big dream of mine to photograph the Scandinavian countries and Scotland, including the NC500 in winter. But my biggest dream is still a photo tour to Iceland. Unfortunately, in 2021, this was cancelled, due to Covid-19. At the moment I'm working on a photographic guidebook presenting the historical heritage of North Wales.
