LONG delays were reported in Stockton Heath after the swing bridge stuck in the ice this morning.

The bridge stuck while opening this morning, Wednesday.

Warrington's Own Buses warned of 'significant delays' to some of their services.

While residents complained of traffic chaos in the village. 

The bridge has now reopened and the road is cleared.

A Tweet from Warrington's Own Buses said: "There are significant delays on the 5, 5A, 6, 7, 8, 8A, 9B, 9, 9A, 62, 62A due to the swing bridge being stuck in the open position.

"Buses are delayed and will divert via Gainsborough Road, Chester Road and Walton New Road.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

The bridge on the A49 over the Manchester Ship Canal is due to be renovated next year by owners Peel. 

It is due to close completely for almost a year from the summer.
