THE Labour Party has announced its latest candidate standing for election in Warrington.

On Thursday, December 8, there will be a by-election in the Winwick Parish Council seat of Peel Hall Ward.

Labour has announced that Lisa Secker will be the candidate to fight for the seat.

The party's Warrington group said that Lisa 'is a local resident, [who] lives on Grasmere Avenue, volunteers with local community groups, and wants to make sure local voices are heard and represented on the parish council.'

Lisa says she is the only candidate in the by-election who lives in the ward being fought for.

She said: "Lots of my neighbours don’t even realise they live in Winwick Parish Council, they’ve told me they want someone local, who understands the unique challenges our community faces.

"I’m the only candidate who lives in the local area, I live on Grasmere Avenue and my house backs onto Radley Common.

“The development on Peel Hall is going to affect me, it’s going to affect all my neighbours.

“When the Tories took the decision out of local people’s hands and Michael Gove gave permission to the developers to build that many houses it really made me angry, it’s not fair."

The Labour candidate continued: “I will hold the developers to account and ensure they stick to the conditions set out by the Secretary of State. I will stand with residents to challenge any attempts to increase the number of houses planned.

“I love volunteering at the new Greenwood Community Garden, I want to improve more of our local green spaces, there is so much potential on our doorsteps.

“I only want what’s best for my neighbours, I promise to be a caring, local voice on the parish council if I’m elected."

The Winwick Parish Council by-election takes place on Thursday, December 8.
