TRIBUTES have been paid to a woman from Latchford who has passed away at the age of 106.

Mona Swindells was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and even great-great-grandmother.

Mona died peacefully on Sunday, November 20.

One of 14 children, she was born on April 26, 1916, and was schooled in Warrington until she left education at the age of 14, when she became a seamstress.

Mona worked as a dressmaker until her own children were grown up, before going on to work at Burtons on Wilderspool Causeway, making men's suits until she retired.

The great-great-grandmother was a lover of the mosaic club at the Baptist Church hall on Loushers Lane, and the bingo hall at Broomfields.

Mona also enjoyed regularly heading to The Brindley theatre in Runcorn to see shows and musicals, before her eyesight deteriorated.

Not only this, but she was a keen watcher of snooker and - as a true Warringtonian - rugby.

Mona was the matriarch of a large family, having four children, nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She married her husband Joseph in a ceremony at the age of 23, in February 1940 - Joseph passed away in 1972, after more than 30 years of being happily married to Mona.

One of Mona's children, Christine Brown, said: "She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends."

The 106-year-old's family added: "Mona's funeral is on Thursday, December 15, at 12:30pm at St Thomas' Church in Stockton Heath followed by internment at Fox Covert.

"Family flowers only.

"Any donations can be sent to Co-Op Funeral Directors, London Road, Stockton Heath and will be sent to Altzheimers Society."
