A POPULAR cafe in the heart of Warrington has been shortlisted for a regional award by Just Eat.

Café at the End of the Universe is a finalist in Just Eat's 'Best Takeaway in the North West' competition.

The beloved Warrington eatery is bouncing back after it had to temporarily close one of its kitchens due to a staff shortage and rising costs.

The takeaway has been nominated for this award before, but now would like to 'go one step further and bring the award back to Warrington.'

Posting about the nomination on social media, the takeaway recognised that 'This is an awesome achievement in itself.'

There are just five finalists in the 'Best Takeaway in the North West' competition, with Café at the End of the Universe being the only nominee from Warrington.

Other nominees include two finalists from Manchester, one from Chester, and another from Liverpool.

Speaking about the awards, Just Eat said: "The British Takeaway Awards are back, under a new name, Just Eat Restaurant Awards.

"But our mission remains the same. We’re here to champion passion, dedication and above all unforgettable food.

"Our finalists have been announced! Get voting for your favourite local restaurant or takeaway to give them the recognition they deserve, so that they can be crowned the best of the best."

The Warrington takeaway has experienced a mass of support already, with many regular guests taking to social media to encourage people to vote for the eatery.

Café at the End of the Universe is rated five-out-of-five on Facebook reviews, with one reviewer saying: "Without doubt, the best burger I have ever, ever had - even better than in New York.

"Utterly delicious."

Another added: "Best food in Warrington.

"Friendly staff and really quick service and even better great food at a great price."

The takeaway was opened in 2017 and prides itself on using top quality ingredients; in a post on social media in October, the owners said they were forced to increase menu prices due to their refusal to use lower-quality produce.

They said: "We have seen the price of cooking oil double since Christmas, all our meat, buns everything has gone up massively.

"On top of that, we have to pay for increases in our gas, electric, rent etc. This leaves us with two options, we could look at getting cheaper quality products or we can increase our prices accordingly.

"We believe the quality is what has made us so popular which means the first really isn't an option."

Voting in Just Eat's awards is open now, and can be accessed on the company's website.
