ANOTHER wave of new bus shelters have been granted planning approval by Warrington Borough Council.

Locations across the town have seen work taking place on bus shelters, as the current contract with providers is expiring.

A number of residents have spotted their bus shelters have been removed ahead of the installation of new shelters.

The new shelters, set to feature digital panels, have been granted the go-ahead by the council over the last few months.

Now, planning permission to revamp shelters across Latchford, Grappenhall, Appleton, and Orford has been granted.

These proposals will see five more bus shelters face rejuvenation by the new provider of bus shelters, and will feature at least one modern digital panel per shelter.

Locations of the new shelters are:

  • Wilderspool Causeway (Shelter 1608-0075), Latchford West
  • 108 Booths Hill Road, Lymm
  • 79-81 Knutsford Road, Grappenhall
  • 324 London Road, Appleton
  • 101 Watkin Street, Orford

The Wilderspool Causeway shelter is one of the closest bus stops to Warrington's Morrisons store, and will be a welcome addition by many to the area.

These new shelters will feature a digital screen used for advertisements at the bus stops, replacing the paper adverts that many shelters currently use.

Plans suggest that advertisements will be on the screens for no more than 10 seconds, allowing for six adverts per minute at each revamped bus shelter.

The new panels will not have video advertisements, but will instead be digital billboards within the bus shelters, displaying static images.

These five shelters have been approved by Warrington Borough Council's planning committee, with more new shelters expected to be approved in the coming weeks and months, as the council looks set to revamp a number of bus stops across the town.
