A PUB in Newton-le-Willows has been awarded a high rating in the Loo of the Year Awards 2022.

The Nine Arches Wetherspoons pub on Legh Street, Earlestown, received a platinum plus rating by inspectors for its "very high standards" toilets.

Loo of the Year Awards inspectors made unnannounced visits to thousands of toilets across the UK and deemed the Newton pub's bathroom fit for the award.

The annual award aims at improving standards of 'away from home' toilets, judging a set of criteria, including cleanliness, decor, maintenance, and accessibility.

Toilets are able to receive a silver, gold, platinum, platinum plus, or diamond grade, with toilets unable to be graded if they fail to meet the criteria.
