BIRCHWOOD'S McDonald's looks set for updates as planning permission for the site has been fully approved.

Plans will see new additions to the site, specifically to improve the experience of guests using the drive-thru.

Among other updates, additional menu signage will be incorporated on the site.

One big change the site is set to see will be to the familiar 'goalpost' height restrictor, as it is planned to be moved from its current spot.

Another major update will be the reconfiguration of the drive-thru lanes in order to accommodate side-by-side ordering, as is currently available at other McDonald's sites, such as the 24-hour restaurant on Winwick Road.

When using the drive-thru, bad weather can often mean that drivers allow rain into their cars when ordering - this is why McDonald's is set to introduce plastic canopies above the ordering stations at the Birchwood site.

A Warrington Borough Council transport report for the application accepts that the development will result in the loss of some parking spaces, but many spaces will remain: "Whilst the proposal results in the loss of some parking provision, ample appears to be retained.

"There are no dazzle or distraction issues with the proposed new signage.

"There are no significant highway implications and there are no objections raised."

No objections had been received by Warrington Borough Council for this development.

The application was received by the local planning authority in August this year, and the plans were given full permission by the council this week.

Work to develop the site is expected to begin soon.
