AN unauthorised encampment of travellers was ordered to be disbanded from a site in Birchwood, on Tuesday, November 15.

A court order was issued to ensure a group of seven caravans would leave the site, having been in place for nearly three weeks.

The unauthorised encampment was established off Ordnance Avenue, in an offshoot of Birchwood Forest Park.

According to Cheshire West and Chester county council, an encampment of seven caravans was established a number of weeks ago, first being reported by residents on Wednesday, October 26.

Since then the group was given temporary permission to remain on the site, and was provided with temporary toilet facilities, too.

However, a number of residents had reported that vehicles from the traveller camp were driving along public footpaths in Birchwood Forest Park.

One resident even claimed that some vehicles form the site had 'almost run [him] over' when he was out walking his dog in the park.

Cheshire Police investigated the allegations and advised the group to cease driving on public footpaths, and the group was ordered off the site by a court order which told the group they had until 4pm to vacate the premises.

When leaving the area, some damage has been done to the grass on the site, and small amounts of rubbish were strewn over the ground - this included bits of paper, plastic, and even some glass.

A padlock was left swinging on the gate that normally blocks this area to vehicles from the main road on Ordnance Avenue.
