A NURSING home in Culcheth is being eyed for demolition in favour of a new housing development.

The development would also see the construction of a new care facility, as well as nine homes.

Radcliffe Meadows Nursing Home closed down in the summer of 2020, as it had fallen short of nursing standards.

The proposed development would see the demolition of the disused care home, and the construction of nine new homes, as well as a new care facility with provision for six residents.

Included in the planning documents are proposals for a two-storey care facility that will be able to house six residents, including four ensuite rooms and two 'living units' that will have their own kitchens and living spaces.

The plans also include specifications for a rooftop garden and balcony for residents to make use of.

On the ground floor of the proposed care facility will be the four ensuite rooms, and the first floor will house the two one-bed living units.

Documents show that nine homes are being planned to be built on the site, too.

There will be two three-bedroom houses, four four-bedroom houses, and three five-bedroom houses.

At least one of the new homes will also be fully wheelchair accessible, according to the documents.

As it stands, there are currently six parking spaces on the site - the planning documents are eyeing up a potential 27 spaces for the land, more than quadrupling the current provision for parking.

The old nursing home has not seen any major updates since 1994, leading the developers to conclude that it is not 'fit for conversion,' and therefore must be demolished before any new facility can be built.

In the documents, the developers say: "The proposal seeks to make use of a previously developed site which is currently in poor condition. The development will deliver a new, high-quality residential development offering a significant enhancement to the built environment.

"The provision of a replacement six-bed care facility will deliver high-quality care accommodation to meet modern care standards and provide a good level of residential amenity for future occupants."

The application is currently under consideration by the planning committee at Warrington Borough Council.
