A DEDICATED worker has received an award that recognises his ‘outstanding’ contribution at a Warrington college.

John Patterson is a member of the trustee board at UTC Warrington on Dallam Lane in the town centre.

He is an employee at Sellafield Ltd which works in partnership with the college – providing great opportunities to young people in the area.

And his hard work has been recognised with a prestigious award.

Last month, John received the Autodesk Excellence Award for Outstanding Industry Engagement (Industry Partner) for his contribution at the 22nd Design and Technology Association Excellence Awards.

John said: “Winning this award is a brilliant recognition for the amazing work by all my colleagues at Sellafield Ltd, in supporting the students and staff at UTC Warrington.

“Our partnership with the college is key to providing great opportunities to young people in the area and securing a sustainable talent pipeline for the future of our business.”

The awards recognise the commitment and achievements of those involved in primary and secondary schools and further and higher education and the annual dinner event was held at The Institution of Engineering and Technology, situated on the banks of the Thames in London.

Principal of UTC Warrington Chris Hatherall said: “We are delighted that John has been recognised for the outstanding contribution he has made supporting the students and staff at UTC Warrington over the last six years.

“Our partnerships with industry are second to none and we are very proud of the technical curriculum we have developed in collaboration with our industry partners.

“John and the team at Sellafield's contributions have helped UTC Warrington's success in students progressing onto high status higher and degree apprenticeships.”

Tony Ryan, CEO of the Design and Technology Association, added: “John is to be congratulated on his well-deserved award and celebrated for going above and beyond what might be expected in his contributions to supporting the subject of design and technology.”
