AS WINTER sweeps in and brings the cold dark nights with it, many who already are facing the full effects of the financial crisis will be dreading what the season is yet to bring.

And with the added new occurrence of Covid spiking at this time of year, it’s no wonder communities in Warrington are setting up events to help people stay ‘healthy and safe’ this winter.

The Roy Humphreys Centre in Longford will be hosting its first ‘Winter Ready’ event which will take place this coming Friday.

People are invited to come down and benefit from a wealth of information on offer during the event which will run from 10am until 12pm.

Organisers of the event said: “With the cost-of-Living crisis, covid, flu and lots of concern around this winter from many professionals and the community that we work with, it’s important that we can all try and give information and support to keep people healthy this winter.

“The event is free, and all are welcome, we also offer an affordable lite bite menu and have recently started a small Thrift shop at the charity where each item cost £1 and we hope this can help to.”

The centre has partnered with Warrington Central and & West Warrington (CWW) primary care network to bring helpful information to the community on wellbeing, healthy lifestyles, flue and Covid vaccines and much more.

As well as employment and volunteering information from organisations such as Springboard- Torus and New Leaf.

And Warrington Voluntary action will be offering hot soup as part of their ‘soup and chat’ initiative during the event.

A spokesperson from CWW said: “We are delighted to be working with the partners in the community on this exciting event.

“The event will provide people with everything they need to stay healthy & safe in the winter.”

The Longford charity is also planning a larger scale ‘Winter Ready’ event to be hosted in Warrington town centre in the coming months and are producing a ‘top tips guide’ to staying healthy this winter.
