A POPULAR carnival in Penketh has announced its choice of theme for its event in the summer of 2023.

The group organising Penketh Carnival on Greystone Recreation Ground on Warrington Road have chosen Saturday, July 8 2023 as the date for the next carnival.

Announcing the date on social media, the community group also announced the theme for next year's event.

The chosen theme for 2023's carnival in Penketh is Disney.

It coincides with Disney's 100-year anniversary, which takes place in 2023 too.

The carnival confirmed that it has already booked performers in for the event, and discussions are underway between the group, a fairground, and Penketh Parish Council to make the event happen.

"Planning is in full swing and the team is working hard already to bring you a fantastic event," the group's social media says.

Confirming the date that small businesses will be able to apply for stall spaces, the group said that applications will open on Saturday, April 1 2023.

Reacting to the news of the announcement on social media, one resident said: "Can't wait for this, looking forward to having our stall again!"

Another added: "Thanks for the date, nice and early so we can plan for our stall."
