SIX men have admitted being involved in a large brawl in a pub in Warrington town centre.

The fight broke out in the Hop Pole pub on Horsemarket Street following a loss by the England national football team.

The televised match was in the year-delayed Euro 2020 final, in which England lost on penalties to Italy after the game finished 1-1.

It was reported that the brawl broke out at around 11pm on Sunday, July 11, 2021.

Around 15 people were involved in fighting inside and outside the pub, according to eyewitnesses.

Police attended the ‘dispute involving a number of people’ and one person was reportedly taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Seven people were charged with affray, more than a year on from the night of the incident, and they all appeared before Warrington Magistrates’ Court last month.

They included George Fletcher, 23 and of Withycombe Road in Penketh, Owen Canning, 23 and of Church Street in Howley, and Chra Hasan, 23 and of Santa Rosa Boulevard in Chapelford.

All three pleaded guilty to the charge before magistrates and were committed to Liverpool Crown Court to be sentenced yesterday, Tuesday.

They were joined in the crown court by Trevor Newton, 55 and of Valley Court in Padgate, Michael Newton, 28 and of Chicago Place in Chapelford, and Joshua Wright, 24 and of Station Road in Penketh.

None of the trio entered their pleas at the magistrates’ court, however they did plead guilty when they appeared before judge Robert Trevor-Jones in Liverpool.

The seventh man charged, Teddy Pearson, 24 and of Secker Avenue in Latchford, is due to enter his plea next week due to him not having a barrister present in the crown court.

The six convicted are due to appear back before Liverpool Crown Court next month to be sentenced, with the adjournment allowing for the preparation of pre-sentence reports.

The court heard that the entirety of the altercation was captured on CCTV footage.

An application was made to sentence the three defendants who pleaded guilty before the magistrates’ court yesterday, however this was refused by judge Trevor-Jones, who wished for all to be sentenced together.

He said: “With the exception of Teddy Pearson, the remaining six will receive full credit for their guilty pleas.

“I am adjourning sentence in this case. You all have unconditional bail.”
