A POPULAR local food favourite has issued a statement on the dilemma it is facing regarding the cost of living crisis.

Café at the End of the Universe is a much-loved feature of Warrington’s culinary scene, with its pop culture inspired burgers, hot dogs and wings leaving customers satisfied and smiling.

However, no business is immune to the current economic situation, which has seen a number of businesses in the town close.

To cope with rising costs over the past six months, the business, which has a stall at Warrington Market, says it has had to raise its prices.

In a statement, the owners said: “When we started this business in 2017, we wanted to make the best quality food we could at the best prices, however this had become increasingly difficult.

“I know most people will understand the reasoning, but as we have built up such a great loyal fanbase over the last five years, we wanted to put out this statement so everyone can fully understand out decision.

“We have seen the price of cooking oil double since Christmas, and all our meat, buns and everything has gone up massively.

“On top of that we have to pay for increases in our gas, electric, rent, etc. This leaves us with two options.

“We could look at getting cheaper quality products, such as frozen burgers, buns, etc, or we can increase our prices accordingly.

Warrington Guardian:

“We believe the quality is what has made us so popular, which means the first really is not an option.”

Café at the End of the Universe says it is currently the busiest it has ever been recently, but it is losing money, and if this continues, owners say they will ‘be out of business by Christmas’.

“Hopefully these price increases will help get us back on track, but we will have to monitor everything and possibly look at further increases if we have to,” the statement adds.

“I would love to keep our prices what they are, but the new prices are the cheapest we can possibly go for now.

“We recognise that everyone is feeling the pinch at the moment, and with that in mind we have made sure we have kept our children's meals the same price.

“We would rather not make any money on them and make sure everyone can afford to bring their kids out for food.

“Finally, please be kind to our staff and any other customer service staff at the moment – none of us can help the price increases.

“Thanks for everyone's continued support; we really appreciate it.

“Please keep using your favourite small businesses as they really need your help at the moment, and we will do our best to keep making awesome food.”

Many of the business' loyal customers commented with their understanding of the situation, praise for the owners' honesty and said they will still be visiting due to the amazing quality of the food on offer.
