AS THE nation mourns the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, we remember the times that the Royal Family visited Warrington.
The Queen's final visit to Warrington came in 2012, the year of her Diamond Jubilee, when she officially opened Orford Jubilee Hub.
Her Majesty had also visited the town three times prior to opening Orford Hub - in 1968, 1979, and 1998.
However, other members of the Royal Family have visited Warrington over the years, including King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.
His Majesty King George VI visited Warrington with his wife, then-Queen Elizabeth, in 1945, on March 7.
This was the second visit that the royal pair made to the town, having previously visited in 1938.
Their visit took place as the Second World War entered its final months, and marked one of the numerous visits that the King and Queen made to towns across the country during the conflict.
Their visit in 1945 saw them be greeted by more than 8,000 schoolchildren at Warrington Town Hall.
The Queen Mother visited the town for a third time, in 1958, when she arrived at Warrington Bank Quay station, just five years after her daughter, Queen Elizabeth II's coronation.
Despite the pouring rain, thousands lined the streets to greet her during her third visit, which would turn out to be her last visit to the town.
When she passed away, Warrington paid tribute to the Queen Mother by lowering the flag to half-mast and opening books of condolence throughout the town.
