WARRINGTON Foodbank has seen a surge in the amount of support it has been providing since the beginning of the year.

In January, the foodbank was able to provide 273 food parcels to families in Warrington - by June, this had increased to 664.

That's an increase of 143 per cent in just six months.

The rise in energy bills, fuel costs, and lack of wage increases has meant that more people in Warrington need the support of the food bank.

David McDonald, CEO of Warrington Foodbank, said: "Per week, we've been supporting between 150 and 200 families in Warrington.

"We supply our food parcels, which include enough food for three meals a day, for three days - the parcels include enough food for all members of the family, so every person gets three meals per day."

The food bank supports a wide range of families, and David says that some users of the food bank won't have eaten for three days.

David said: "Food is the easy option for help.

"These people can't do anything about rising fuel costs, and increasing prices - but they can get some help by coming to the food bank."

The food bank has been open for 10 years now, having been established in 2012.

The food bank's CEO added: "I'd just like to say thank you for the continued support of the people of Warrington - and we're here to provide support in and around Warrington wherever we can."

Warrington Foodbank can be found in the Golden Square, and on Tanning Court.
