A PERSONAL trainer will make a single pit stop in Warrington along his 107-mile fundraising trek, pushing a brave 10-year-old meningitis survivor from Walsall to Blackpool.

Craig Timmins a community fundraiser from Walsall has a goal of raising £10,000 to pay for a years’ worth of physio fee’s for Tommy Brown by the upcoming Bank Holiday Monday after hearing the sad news that Tommy’s funding would be cut for the following year.

Describing Tommy as an ‘inspiration to all’ Craig detailed how the event came about.

He said: “My mum knew Tommy’s family and had mentioned that their funding for Tommy’s physio had been cut. I have done a few charity fundraising events and wanted to do something to help.”

Tommy, a courageous little boy from Walsall, contracted meningitis when he was just 6 months old and the effects of it led to him being unable to walk and having to have one arm amputated.

Craig, 36, will set off at 5am this Thursday, 25 from Bloxwich and will push Tommy in his wheel chair for the mammoth distance, making a pit stop at the ‘Lion Public House’ on Tarporley Road in Warrington and resting over night before carrying on the remaining 60 miles to the finishing line in Blackpool, Friday evening.

He said: “We chose Blackpool because I asked Tommy where his favourite place was and that’s where he said. I said ‘Tommy do you fancy a walk to Blackpool’ and he said yes.”

Since being young Tommy has received yearly physio which has made a ‘significant’ impact on his physical abilities and over quality of life.

But after his family received the devastating news that their funding to pay the £10,000 fee’s would be cut, Craig has stepped in to try and raise the money needed.

Craig, who has carried out several charity events prior including an 24 hour spin cycle for cancer research, has set up a ‘Go Fund Me’ page to attempt to raise the desired total with them so far having received £4600 worth of donations.

During the event, Craig will post live updates on social media to take people along the journey with them.

Tommy has his whole school and community behind him for the upcoming challenge with many of his school friends having recorded inspirational messages for him to watch, to cheer him on along the way.
