MEMBERS of Stretton Women’s Institute have celebrated 90 years since its opening.

A vintage afternoon tea party was held at Appleton Parish Hall to celebrate the occasion – with entertainment provided by The Barkla Buskers, a ukulele band from Widnes.

Assisted by fellow members, Lynda Khalifa served a delicious range of sandwiches, scones, cakes and mini deserts along with pots of tea.

A three-tier celebration cake made by treasurer Gill Briggs was enjoyed by the ladies. It was decorated with small icing flowers made by every member.

It was cut by one of the WI’s longest serving members, Gwenyth Altmann.

Members dressed in vintage clothing to honour the 1930s and a memorabilia table was in place to celebrate the early years of the WI.

Stretton WI meets the second Thursday of every month at Appleton Parish Hall at 2pm and welcomes new members.
