A GROUP of travellers who illegally pitched up on a popular Warrington park have been allowed to remain.
Five caravans and associated vehicles have set up camp on rugby pitches on Victoria Park, off Knutsford Road.
According to an unauthorised encampment log for Cheshire and Warrington, which is run by Cheshire West and Chester Council, the group arrived on Saturday.
An officer from Warrington Borough Council attended the site yesterday, Monday.
Following their visit, the group have been permitted to remain temporarily due to a health issue.
It is currently the second such camp in operation in the town, with another group of travellers on the overspill car park at Orford Jubilee Hub.
That group, made up of seven caravan and associated vehicles, arrived two weeks ago on July 26 July.
The unauthorised encampment log states that the group have previously been temporarily permitted to remain on the council-owned land until yesterday.
A council review of the camp was due to take place to determine whether they can remain for longer or must move on.
