A TALENTED ex-care worker for the Salvation Army has created brilliant art designs for the community to enjoy.

Angela Potter, from Latchford, re-discovered her love for art during the lockdown after the Salvation Army Day Care centre she ran in the community she grew up in, sadly closed during the pandemic.

Angela, who had been a carer at the centre for 30 years, was ‘shocked’ and ‘saddened’ by the closure which she said lead to many of the elderly attendees being put in homes due to lack of care.

Since the closure, Angela found solace during lockdown by creating canvas’ of artwork based on inspiration from images she had seen or taken which then led to her starting the Facebook page ‘Art Creations’.

Art Creations features many of the local murals and canvas’ Angela has created, many upon request, including one she painted recently of Ukraine’s national flower which was sold to Warrington Wolves Foundation to then be auctioned off, with the money raised going toward the Ukraine Fund for the war.

Angela, 56, described her biggest hit yet within the community being the Peter Rabbit portrait she painted on her gate during lockdown.

Warrington Guardian:

She said: “After I painted it, lots of children would walk past and want to look at it and one even asked if they could have a picture with it. Some parents have said how they walk this route home from school now so them and their children can walk past it.

“It Is nice to give people something to look at, to brighten up their day”.

Angela’s friend and previous volunteer at the Day Care Centre, Beverley Long, described Angela as ‘extremely talented’ and Angela painted a design of dandelions (pictured below) on the front of her own house.

Warrington Guardian:

She said: “People always stop to look at it and comment on how nice it is.”

Beverley described how Angela is always giving back to the community, detailing how during Covid she began a walking group which still meets every Monday, many of whom are elderly members that previously attended the Day Care Centre. She described the Wolves super fan as ‘one of the kindest people you would wish to meet’.

Angela creates art commissions upon request as well as restoring old or used items and has some of her painted canvas’ on sale. For more information or to make a request, contact her through the Facebook page ‘Art Creations By Mrs. P’.
