WARRINGTON South MP Andy Carter will not publicly declare who he is backing in the Tory leadership race, his office has confirmed.
Former Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Foreign Secretary Liz Truss are battling to be the next leader of the Conservative Party, and the Prime Minister.
The winner of the ballot for leader of the party will be announced on September 5.
Mr Carter’s office has been asked who he is backing in the contest.
But his office says that Mr Carter ‘has indicated that he is not going to publicly declare for a candidate’ now that it has reached the final ballot ‘as it is currently a one member one vote’.
It added that he believes the party ‘needs to unite around whoever is elected’ and ensure that ‘we continue to push ahead with the levelling up agenda’ for places like Warrington South.
