She went into the final as the competition’s leading scorer, having the best points average of 7.8 per game.

And the team being able to boast the best two-point shooting percentage is down to her prowess at finding the net from distance.

Warrington Guardian:

She featured in all three group games, the initial 15-14 loss to New Zealand, the 22-5 thumping of British Virgin Islands and the 21-17 success against Canada.

Then Jump helped her country defeat Kenya 21-12 in the quarter finals and Australia 21-15 in the semi-finals.

This is the first time that the 3x3 form of basketball has been contested in a Commonweatlh Games, so Jump’s medal success is a historic one.

She is the daughter of former Appleton residents Danny and Anne-Marie Jump.

Warrington-born, she moved to California with her family when she was aged eight.

The six-foot shooting guard, who studied at St Matthew’s Primary School in Stretton and enjoyed playing tennis before crossing the Atlantic, became the first British woman to win a National Collegiate Athletic Association basketball championship when winning the 2020/21 NCAA final with her university team Stanford Cardinal against Arizona Wildcats watched by more than four million viewers on ESPN.

As part of the build-up to the Commonwealth Games, Jump, who now lives in San Jose and is majoring in psychology, was part of an England squad who came third at the Belgrade National 3x3 Tournament, beating world number one Germany twice on their way to the podium.

“3x3 is relatively new but it’s an exciting game," said Jump, going into the tournament.

"The games are shorter, it’s fast paced and a lot of great basketball plays are going to happen.

"This is a great opportunity to grow the Basketball England fan base and show a younger generation what’s possible.”
