THE bride had five different dresses to choose from and the groom had himself and the couple’s three sons to get dressed on the big day but Callum and Carla Shaw made it to Warrington Registry Office and became husband and wife.

Callum, who is 27, and 33-year-old Carla, had butterflies when they first met but after distracting Carla with a bottle of champagne, Callum proposed just six months later.

Here the new Mr and Mrs Shaw, who live in Orford, tell us their wedding story, in their own words.

When and how did you meet?

Callum: We met in December 2016 when I worked for Carla’s mum’s partner but we officially became a couple on the January 13, 2017 while she was in work.

What did you think of each other when you first met?

Callum: There was instant attraction. We were both going through a difficult time and found it really easy to talk to each other. We both had butterflies each time we spoke.

Where and when did you get engaged?

Callum: Spice of India in Cuerdley Cross in July 2017.

How did one of you propose?

Callum: I had one of the waiters bring out a bottle of champagne to distract her as I dropped to one knee and proposed. My mum was there to video it all.

What was the date of the wedding and reception?

Carla: Saturday, July 2

What was the location of the wedding and reception?

Carla: Warrington Registry Office and then Tetley Walkers

How were you feeling on the morning of your wedding?

Callum: I was ok - a little stressed trying to make sure me and our three boys were ready.

Carla: I felt fine after glass of prosecco!

How would you describe your wedding?

Callum: We would describe our wedding as perfect in every way.

How many guests did you have?

Carla: Roughly 40 people attending the ceremony and around 90 to the evening do.

What did your guests eat?

Callum: We put on a buffet spread for the guests - Carla’s mum being the mastermind behind the food.

Did you have a first dance?

Callum: We danced to Brett Young’s In Case You Didn’t Know. We chose this because it reminds us that when things get hard, we should always remember that we love each other.

Did you have speeches?

Callum: We had speeches but we did them a little late in the evening so a few drinks had already gone by. They went as well as they could!

What are your favourite memories of the day?

Callum: My favourite memory of the day was seeing my beautiful wife walk towards me down the aisle to stand by my side for the rest of our lives.

Carla: The most memorable part of the day was marrying my best friend.

Tell us a little bit about your outfits on the day

Callum: Carla had five different dresses before the wedding as she couldn’t decide which one she preferred. But on the morning of the wedding, she just knew which one was right. Me and our three children were all wearing grey as our colour scheme was grey and pink.

Did you go on honeymoon?

Callum: We chose not to have a honeymoon as we preferred to spend time with our children - it was our eldest son’s birthday the day after our wedding.

Why did you want to get married?

Callum: Me and my wife have a very strong bond. We can talk about anything. She makes me smile every single day and is always proud of me regardless of what tasks I face. We are both very family orientated and we keep each other grounded.
