Grower wins seventh gold medal at RHS Tatton Flower Show

Sue Beesley, of Bluebell Cottage Gardens and Nurseries, impressed judges once again at this year’s RHS Tatton Flower Show.

For the seventh year in a row, she has been awarded a gold medal.

“I am really pleased,” said Sue, who has exhibited at this prestigious event for 15 years.

“It has been lovely to take some new varieties to the show this year.”

The nursery, tucked down a quiet country lane in Dutton, near Northwich and Warrington, was featured on BBC 2 Gardeners’ World earlier this week.

Sue, a former BBC Gardener of the Year, was delighted to meet so many gardeners who share her passion.

Visitors from all over the country flocked into the Floral Pavilion to talk to some of the UK’s finest growers.

“I have a wonderful team who work with me and know all the plants really well,” said Sue, who was constantly re-stocking her stand as customers bought her plants to take home.

“It’s great to be able to share our knowledge and expertise with other gardeners.”

Sue, who specialises in flowering perennials, loves helping people to choose the right plants for their gardens.

Preparing for this show as temperatures soared to 37 degrees, she said, was very challenging.

But growers are used to nurturing their precious stock 365 days of the year.

“It is a physically demanding job,” said Sue. “Plants need watering on Sundays and Christmas Day.”

The nursery at Lodge Lane specialises in flowering perennials and stocks more than 700 varieties.

Most of the plants are propagated from stock plants, using peat-free compost and managed without chemical pesticides.

Sue displays all her gold medals in a tea room which is open to the public.
