A BAN had been put in place to stop any more trees being felled in the latest twist in the wrangle over land owned by travellers in Grappenhall.

As reported in last week's Warrington Guardian, a large number of tree on the edge of the Cartridge Lane site had been cut down.

This removed any concerns about visibility for drivers entering or leaving the site - one of the key reasons why councillors blocked an application for caravans to be permanently housed there.

But now council chiefs have issued an order preventing any more of the trees from being cut down.

No appeal has yet been lodged against the decision to reject the application, although a second, fresh application could always be submitted.

Campaigners against the plans say that without the trees in place, the site and the carvans can now be seen from the Cartridge Lane road, meaning the bid could now be seen as more harmful to the green belt.
