A GRANDAD from Woolston has been chosen to run in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton Relay.

Dave Brown was selected to take part in the Games after being nominated by colleagues at Biffa for his 'inspiring' charity work.

7,500 people from around the world have been selected to take part in this relay event, which will take place in the build-up to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham later this year.

Dave is set to carry the baton in the North West segment of the relay, on Sunday, July 17, at 1pm.

The Woolston resident, who has four children, one stepson, and nine grandchildren, said: "To be a baton-bearer is a real honour. I’m really looking forward to seeing family and friends along the route.

"No doubt it will be something that lives in my memory forever."

Dave is a keen runner, and in the past has raised thousands of pounds for various charities, including £10,000 for Cancer Research by trekking part of the Great Wall of China.

The Games are expected to attract one-and-a-half million spectators, as well as a television audience of more than one billion.
