HUNDREDS of households across Warrington could miss out on a council tax rebate by forgetting to apply.

Residents are being reminded to make sure they do not miss out on the Government’s energy rebate by applying immediately.

Warrington Borough Council is currently in the process of issuing the rebate payment of £150 – introduced to help households with rising energy bills – to eligible households in the town.

The rebate, which does not have to be repaid, is available to anyone residing in properties in council tax bands A to D.

The council has already automatically paid the £150 to nearly all Warrington households who pay their council tax by direct debit.

However, those who do not pay their council tax by direct debit need to complete an application form to claim their rebate.

There are still a large number of households in Warrington that have not completed this form, and they therefore risk missing out on the rebate.

Cllr Cathy Mitchell, the council’s cabinet member for finance, said: “We have been working hard to provide the energy rebate to everyone who pays their council tax by direct debit.

“I am pleased that almost all households who pay in this way have now received their £150.

“However, we know that there are still thousands of households who will not receive the rebate automatically, and who have not yet applied.

“If you are in a council tax band A to D property, you are entitled to this payment, and we want to make sure you get it.

“Our online application form is quick and easy to complete, and it will enable us to get your money to you as quickly as possible. Make sure you apply, so you do not miss out.”

If you are eligible for the rebate but have not yet claimed it, you can do so by visiting warrington.gov.uk/rebate

This provides a range of information about the payment, as well as the application form, which asks you to provide your council tax reference number, postcode, surname and bank account details, if you want the £150 to be paid into your bank account.

It is also recommended that you provide an email address so you can receive a confirmation email when your form has been submitted, and so the council can contact you if any further information is required.
