WHILE Warrington Borough Council has announced that it will ‘pause’ changes to roads in Orford under the Central 6 Streets Plan, the plan will proceed in Westy.

So what will this mean for motorists in the area?

The Westy ‘low traffic neighbourhood’ will largely comprise of a serial of ‘modal filters’.

WBC describes these as ‘effectively being point-closures that restrict vehicular traffic from accessing a particular street’.

These will be imposed on an 18-month trial basis from Monday, June 20, on Grange Avenue, Griffiths Street and Reynolds Street.

The biggest impact will be the closure of Grange Avenue to through traffic.

Drivers looking to access the Kingsway Bridge from Knutsford Road will therefore have to follow Thelwall Lane and Kingsway South instead.

Meanwhile, the current one-way restriction on Broadbent Avenue will be reversed to become westbound only.

Council leader Cllr Russ Bowden said of the Westy scheme in his open letter to residents: "After carefully considering feedback we have received over the last couple of weeks, we have come to the conclusion that while we will proceed as planned with the Westy scheme it is only right to pause our plans for Orford to reflect on the feedback we have received.

"Considering Westy, we have a smaller scheme across a smaller footprint and we are confident we will be able to address some longstanding traffic issues in this neighbourhood.

"As we have always said, however, we will continue to listen to feedback and this LTN will be for a maximum trial period of 18 months unless the data clearly shows that the scheme is working.
