A SCHOOLGIRL from Thelwall is set to be crowned the village's new Rose Queen, later this week.

Summer Skye Whittaker-Ive is a pupil at Thelwall Community Junior School, and on Saturday 18 June will be announced as the Rose Queen.

The annual Rose Queen event includes a procession around the village, as well as games and competitions around the Parish Hall field.

There will be cakes and stalls at the event, too.

Summer said: "I am really looking forward to being Rose Queen this year, seeing all my attendants, and watching Zara [Summer's sister] bear the crown that I will wear."

Not only will there be fun and games on the day, but in the build up to the event the village has been taking part in the fifth annual scarecrow parade, with many villagers creating themed displays for the event.

The annual summer procession around the village will include themed floats created by villagers, in previous years they have been themed around things such as The Lion King.

Summer said: "I can sense the day will be amazing, and the whole village will have a nice time."
