A POPULAR restaurant has thanked customers after being named as a finalist for a prestigious national food award.

Ego Mediterranean Restaurant and Bar in Stockton Heath was honoured in the Best Mediterranean Establishment category at The Food Awards England 2022.

The Walton Road eatery was shortlisted for praise alongside some of the best restaurants in England.

Despite falling just short to Clitheroe-based Brizola Bar and Grill for the northern England prize last night, Monday, Ego has thanked loyal customers for their nominations.

Laura Thomason, general manager at Ego Stockton Heath, said: “It was nice to be recognised, particularly at a national level, and all of the staff here are very glad of it.

“It was a bit of a surprise, but it was definitely great to be recognised in that way.

“We received quite a lot of support from customers on social media, with people commenting that it was nice that we had been nominated and that they agreed with it.”

When asked why she thought people wanted to nominated Ego Stockton Heath, Laura added: “We are quite consistent, and we have a lot of regular customers who return for that personal touch.

“We keep our standards at a high level and people recognise that.”

Honouring all that the food industry has to offer, The Food Awards England look to highlight the country’s best restaurants, chefs, servers, specialists and suppliers.

The winners are a true reflection of high standard and customer service, as they are chosen by members of the public who often have eclectic gastronomic tastes.

A spokesman for The Food Awards England said: “These awards aim to thank those that work hard within the food industry and contribute to making England a great gastronomic place to visit.

“It is true that England combines tastes and flavours from all over the world, and visitors can find different restaurants, gastro pubs and bistros to meet their needs.

“These people enhance the country’s reputation nationally and internationally, and we would like to make sure that the hard work of England’s food professionals does not go unnoticed.

“It was lovely to be part of this celebration and we would like to congratulate all finalists and winners for their achievements.”

Ego brands itself as a restaurant serving freshly cooked Mediterranean food, wine, beer, cocktails, kid’s meals and daily deals.

Situated in the heart of Stockton Heath and with a fully enclosed and heated terrace, Ego is a ‘must visit’ to watch the world go by while enjoying food and delicious cocktails.

The eatery says it is ideal for large groups, special occasions, family celebrations and intimate dining.

It says it serves the best cuisine from across the Mediterranean, including French, Spanish, Italian, Greek and Moroccan food.

This covers everything from chargrilled steaks, hanging kebabs, fresh fish and seafood, pizza, pasta and paella.

The restaurant also has dedicated gluten free and vegan menus, afternoon tea and two children’s menus, ensuring there is something for everyone.
