LABOUR Warrington North MP Charlotte Nichols says the Prime Minister has presided over a ‘shameful culture at the heart of our democracy’ and should resign following the publication of the Sue Gray report.

Ms Nichols also slammed Tory MPs who ‘don’t have the backbone’ to remove Boris Johnson from office.

She said: “The report shows what we already knew to be true – that the Prime Minister encouraged and frequently attended drinks events in Downing Street that completely broke laws he enforced on the British public.

“The only new information is the revelation that there were ‘multiple examples of a lack of respect and poor treatment of security and cleaning staff’, which is an appalling new detail of an already utterly unacceptable situation.

“He is the first sitting Prime Minister to be fined for breaking his own laws, he has presided over a shameful culture at the heart of our democracy and he should resign.

“The fact Boris Johnson calls his critics over this ‘sanctimonious’ just shows how little he is sorry, and Conservative MPs who don't have the backbone to remove him from office are frankly just as responsible as he is for this whole mess.”
