AN Olympic medallist put Latchford children through their paces in a fundraising event at the school.

Danny Purvis, who won a gymnastics bronze medal at the London Olympics in 2012, visited Alderman Bolton Primary School.

He visited as an ambassador of Sports for Champions – a not-for-profit organisation that works with world-class athletes to inspire children to embrace healthy and active lifestyles.

Children from nursery to year six came into school in their sportswear and spent the morning in a frenzy of high-energy activity which included press-ups, star jumps and leg drives.

Their efforts raised £667 through sponsorship and the money will go to the school and also help Sports for Champions’ work with youngsters around the country.

Warrington Guardian:

Acting assistant head teacher, Kate McCormack said: “The children had a wonderful time and loved meeting Danny.

“He showed them that hard work and determination leads to success and inspired them to never give up on their goals.

“They got to see his Olympic media and much to their delight he also demonstrated a back flip off a bench and walking on his hands!”
