A 17-YEAR-OLD boy has been charged following the break in of a wine bar in Newton-le-Willows in January.
At about 10.25pm on Sunday, January 2, police were alerted to a burglary in progress at the Riddling Rack bar on High Street.
Four suspects dressed in dark clothing were spotted making off from the scene on a scrambler bike towards Ashton Road.
A police helicopter helped to track down the scrambler bike and officers detained a teenager in a field off Vista Road.
The safe which had been stolen from the bar containing approximately £3,000 in cash was recovered and returned to the bar owners - who had to fund the purchase of a new custom-made front door which was smashed upon entry by the suspects.
A 17-year-old has now been charged with burglary and being carried in a motor vehicle without the owner's consent.
He has been remanded on unconditional bail and will appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Thursday, August 4.
