THE head teacher of Bewsey Lodge Primary School is taking on a fundraising challenge to say thank you to local sports clubs.

After seeing the impact that being part of these sports teams can have on children at her school, Emma wanted to give something back to them.

She said: “I have seen children grow in confidence and watched their social and emotional development thrive because of this.

“I have seen huge changes in behaviour and self-control which have contributed to better learning in school and a more tolerant approach to difficult situations.

“The fitness and health benefits for many have been clear but also the friendly rivalry and banter between children from different teams builds a sense of humour whilst maintaining respect and good sportsmanship.

“Children learn how great it feels to succeed, to work hard and win!”

Emma believes being part of these teams teaches the children that sometimes in life we don’t win and allows them to build skills such as resilience.

The head teacher will be taking part in the Manchester 10k on May 22 and all money raised will go to Rylands, Bank Quay Bulls, Crosfields and Culcheth.

“I have also seen first-hand how hard the volunteer coaches work to make all this happen,” Emma added.

“They give so much of their own time - not just coaching but in organising and admin.

"Without these very special people, my boy and thousands of others over the years across Warrington, and further afield, would not have had the extra opportunity to grow and develop into great young adults.

Emma and the school dog, Leila, are out most mornings at 5.30am training – so make sure you give them a wave if you see them.

Emma said: “I ask anyone who has ever had the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful rugby network to donate - your pledge will say thank you from you to the team and the coaches for their commitment!

“Please make sure you include tour team name and age group in your donation.”
