WARRINGTON Town’s final-day opponents and play-off rivals Matlock Town have been hit with a points deduction.
The Gladiators have been deducted one point for fielding an ineligible player in two separate fixtures earlier this season.
Yellows travel to the Proctor Cars Stadium to face Matlock in their final regular season game on Saturday knowing a victory would secure third spot in the table and a home play-off match.
Despite the deduction, Matlock’s situation remains unchanged – they still must win the game in order to secure their play-off place.
They remain fifth, one point ahead of sixth-placed Bamber Bridge.
The offence occurred when Matlock visited South Shields in a match they lost 3-1 on February 22 and a 1-1 draw at FC United of Manchester four days later.
The player in question was subject to a suspension at the time and was thus unavailable for the games.
Matlock have also been given a £100 fine.
